The Colorado drag strip comes down in Morrison as it prepares to build a new facility in Hudson
Morrison, Colo.—It was the end of an era last week as Bandimere Speedway in the southwest Denver-metro area went under demolition at its longtime Morrison home. The race track launched in 1958 and had been owned and operated by generations of the Bandimere family for 65 years until it closed in 2023 as the surrounding area experienced a growing transformation.

The family will build a new facility in Hudson, located in Weld County, northeast Denver. A date for the new construction hasn’t been announced though the track is making headway. “As of Wednesday, April 1, we are thrilled to share that we received a unanimous ‘yes’ vote for both annexation and zoning within the Town of Hudson,” stated the track on its website.
The track encourages its fans and community to continue to follow its progress here and on social media.

“It is really hard to put into words the feelings and emotions that we are all experiencing as we watch one of the most iconic elements of Thunder Mountain be torn down,” Bandimere Speedway stated in a Facebook post last week. “However we can say this, it is possible to feel heartbroken reminiscing over all the memories that surrounded this building, while at the same time feeling excited for the future and anxious about what the new tower will look like.
“These planning stages take a lot of time and decision making to ensure we exceed not only our own expectations, but those of racers and race fans alike. We want to thank everyone for their continued patience, support and prayers throughout this entire process.”
