Continental announces recall of approximately 94,000 passenger and light truck tires in U.S

The voluntary recall involves tires that may experience sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread loss

Fort Mill, S.C.—Continental has announced a voluntary recall program involving approximately 94,000 Continental, General and Barum brand passenger vehicle tires that were produced at the company’s Mt. Vernon, Ill., plant and sold to vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket.

The tires may experience sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread loss. Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from this condition and the company believes 203 of these tires may be defective.

Continental notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the details of the recal. The company is in communication with the vehicle manufacturers to support notification of customers who purchased vehicles equipped with those tires. Owners will be promptly notified and informed about the details of the voluntary safety recall program. The tires will be replaced at no charge and there have been no reports of accidents.

The tires can be identified by brand, size and Department of Transportation (DOT) week codes, which can be found in a list of affected tires via the following link: https://continentaltire.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/988. The list of tires can also be found on the NHTSA Web site.
