Leesburg, Va.—The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a free webinar on Tuesday, June 4 at 4 p.m. ET entitled “Stop/Start Technologies – Impact On Climate Control Performance.”
Many vehicles are now being engineered with stop-start technology. Implementing automated stop-start technology in today’s vehicles is a cost-effective way to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions without affecting consumer acceptance. A stop-start system operates by cutting off the engine when the vehicle comes to a complete standstill and automatically re-starts the engine when the driver releases the brake pedal. This operating strategy is often accompanied by a short loss of climate control performance which can easily be misdiagnosed by a service technician.
Peter Orlando with the Carquest Technical Institute will discuss what modified electrical demands and criteria are required for auto-stop and the inhibit conditions that will disable the stop-start systems. Additionally, he will explore ways to look at scan tool data to determine vehicle climate control conditions that are normal functions of stop-start technology equipped vehicles. Also included will be a discussion of various warning lights and driver information system messages that could help a technician’s diagnostic direction when a complaint arises.
