Denver was the stage for the third-annual Automotive Services Summit with co-hosts Piper Sandler and Schwartz Advisors for aftermarket M&A outlook
Denver—Private equity investors and motor vehicle aftermarket executives attended the third-annual Automotive Services Summit, which was held last week in Denver. Piper Sandler and Schwartz Advisors were co-hosts of the event.
The conference provided a forum for investors and other interested parties to learn more about the outlook and investment opportunities within automotive and heavy truck service. This year, the conference focused on tire dealers, towing, mobile repair, fleet services, reman parts, OE dealer service, general repair and quick lubes.
M&A activity in the aftermarket has been growing significantly over the past several years. Within the automotive aftermarket, the service segment has shown to be particularly attractive to investors. This year’s agenda included a slate of well-known speakers and subject matter experts from both the automotive aftermarket and the investing community.
The day began with a panel discussion on general repair and tires, moderated by Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance CEO JC Washbish. The panel included Don Hill, CEO, PARC Auto Group; John Teddy, CEO, Straightaway Tire & Auto; Stu Crum, CEO, Drive Automotive Services and Dwayne Myers, President, Dynamic Automotive.
Schwartz Advisors Partner Brian Cruickshank held a fireside chat with GrubHub founder and former CEO Matt Maloney. They discussed Maloney’s new venture, Curbside SOS, which focuses on the towing industry.
Schwartz Advisors’ Managing Partner Rick Schwartz moderated a panel on alternative parts (such as salvage and reman) and their impact on the supply chain. Panelists included Paul Delaney, Chief Vision Officer, Fenix Parts; Greg Horn, Chief Innovation Officer, PartsTrader and Andrew Sexton, CEO, All Star Auto Parts.
The audience heard company presentations by Epika Fleet Services CEO Joe Dougherty; Diesel Laptops CEO Dan Nynas and TireButler CEO Jack Benzacar. Piper Sandler Senior Research Analyist Peter Keith discussed “The Public Market’s Receptivity to Auto Service Companies.”
A panel discussion, “Building Top Performing Auto Service Platforms in Quick Lube,” included Ron Morrow, CEO, OilEx; Griffin Ash, Managing Member, EB Partners (Take 5 Oil Change); Scott Hempy, CEO OilStop; and Richard Paek, CEO Paek Management Group (Jiffy Lube). Piper Sandler Managing Director Jim Reilly served as moderator.
To discuss the OE dealer service market, Piper Sandler Managing Director Treavor Hill led a fireside chat with BG Products CEO Darin Greseth.
The program concluded with a presentation by LEK Managing Director Emile Santos, who spoke on the “Lifetime Cost of Electric Vehicle Service.”
