Hawaii’s UNIBODY Autotech joins CSN Collision Network

After obtaining degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Michael Chong purchased the shop from his father in 1998

Honolulu, Hawaii—UNIBODY Autotech Collision Centres of Hawaii, serving the approximately one million metropolitan area encompassing the Daniel K International Airport and Pearl Harbor, including clients from neighbouring counties, is now a part of the CSN Collision network.

Started in the 1970s by the father of current owner Michael Chong, what began as a shop with a maximum capacity for two vehicles slowly grew to a four-person shop. In 1998, Chong purchased the business.

UNIBODY Autotech team members participate in I-CAR training.

Growing up, Chong spent his summers helping out in the shop. After obtaining degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawaii, he started working part time at UNIBODY, learning the business and assisting in adopting new technologies and trends. UNIBODY is Tesla- and Rivian-certified.

“I love how things fall into place when you set yourself up for success,” Chong said. “A few years ago, I met John Hollingsworth, Director, US Business Development at CSN Collision. However, the business was not yet poised to take advantage of being part of the network. Following further conversations with John around expanding within the current business climate, we began our collaboration. As Wayne Gretzky said, ‘I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.’ Therefore, we strive to plan and move towards where the industry will be rather than where it has been. Being the 400th shop is the icing on the cake.

The team’s devotion to the community is manifest through their various charitable endeavours. For the past eight years, UNIBODY has organized an annual holiday car giveaway in partnership with insurers, OEMs, vendors, and the local community. Additionally, the shop conducts Child Seat safety inspections and educational projects as part of their efforts to contribute to the community.
