BAR to hold workshop on storage fees for shops, April 25

Proposed regulations would impose new requirements on shops and place limitations on shops charging storage fees; Advisory Group meeting also scheduled

Sacramento, Calif.—The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will hold a regulatory workshop on April 25, to discuss proposed regulations on storage and towing fees charged by automotive repair dealers.

The proposed regulations would bring together and clarify existing statutes governing storage and towing fees as authorized by AB 1263 (Berman, Chapter 681, Statutes of 2023), stated BAR in an email notification. The workshop will be held both in-person and via teleconference in accordance with Government Code section 11123.5. The workshop will also be available by live webcast.

Jack Molodanof is president of Molodanof Government Relations

“The proposed storage regulations would impose new administrative requirements on automotive repair shops and place limitations on shops charging storage fees,” wrote Jack Molodanof, president of Molodanof Government Relations, to Aftermarket Matters Weekly in an email. “For example, automotive repair shops will be required to post and display current daily storage rates visible to customers and notify customers in writing when charges will accrue. Auto body shops will be required to report to BAR their annual daily storage rates.”

Molodanof continued, “It is highly encouraged that shops participate in this important workshop and provide input. Remote participation is available if you are not able to attend in person.”
