Lifelong industry veteran Mike Eldard retires from Akebono

Eldard’s journey in the aftermarket began at the age of 16 and was managing his own store at 19; Erick Kinnunen succeeds him as National Sales Manager.

Farmington Hills, Mich.—Akebono Brake Corporation has announced the retirement of Mike Eldard, an automotive aftermarket professional whose career spans more than five decades, and the appointment of Erick Kinnunen as National Sales Manager.

Eldard’s journey in the automotive aftermarket began at the age of 16, working in an auto parts store. By 17, while still in high school, he had been promoted to assistant manager, and by 19, he was managing his own store. In 1983, Eldard transitioned into sales with Moog, beginning a long career in the aftermarket.

Throughout his career, including his time at Akebono, Eldard became known as a strong advocate for premium brands across the industry, regardless of product category. He built lasting relationships not only with customers, but also with peers across the aftermarket, earning widespread respect for his integrity, collaboration, and deep industry knowledge.

During his tenure at Akebono, he played an important role in supporting the company’s aftermarket growth, strengthening customer relationships, and representing the Akebono brand across the industry.

“Mike’s contributions to the automotive aftermarket and the relationships he built throughout his career have made a lasting impact,” said Tommy Rivera, Director of Aftermarket. “His professionalism, industry knowledge, and passion for supporting customers and partners will be greatly missed. We thank Mike for his years of service and wish him all the best in retirement.”

In conjunction with this transition, Akebono has also announce Erick Kinnunen as National Sales Manager. In this role, Kinnunen will lead national sales initiatives and will work closely with Akebono’s sales team and distribution partners.

“We are pleased to welcome Erick into this role,” said Rivera. “His leadership and understanding of the aftermarket will help drive continued success for Akebono and our partners.”
