As an apprentice tech fresh out of a trade school in 1979 to now some 40 years later, what I see works best is both training and coaching done simultaneously in a live-working environment.
What pay and/or benefits would you need in place to actually have your top performers all producing at top performer levels?
A wrong incentive plan can demotivate service advisors. But more often than not, I see the opposite, where the pay plan is overpaying for the results being produced.
Did the tech find the work and then the advisor sold it or, did the advisor sell it and the tech confirmed it? The answer should be “yes."
Tech wages are the number one reason that has created the automotive industry tech shortage. Not high school shop classes or trade centers going away.
I have come to understand that people are motivated by more than just money. Money is a great motivator — but to some, it can be third, fourth or even further down their motivation list.
