Young Seattle tech becomes first to receive iTAC General Service Technician Journey Level certificate

Employers Chris Christensen and Nathan Hui at West Seattle Autoworks recognized the tech’s potential when they hired him as a part-time lube tech while attending AT school

Seattle—Michael Crawford, 21, has become the first to receive an iTAC General Service Technician Journey Level certificate from the Washington State Apprenticeship Training Council.

Employers Chris Christensen and Nathan Hui at West Seattle Autoworks said they recognized Crawford’s potential when they hired him as a part-time lube tech while he was attending the automotive program at South Seattle Community College (SSCC). Shortly after, they discovered the iTAC program and signed him up in January 2020.

Despite the challenges of 2020, Crawford was able to juggle a job, SSCC and iTAC course work at the same time and complete his apprenticeship on time with an average course score of 93 percent. He will graduate from SSCC this spring, according to an ASA Northwest report.

Crawford has also already transferred into the Master Service Technician Apprenticeship program and is excelling.
