Group 1 Automotive acquires Mel Rapton Honda in Sacramento

The store has been rebranded Capital City Honda and the acquisition brings Group 1’s total U.S. dealership count to 120

Sacramento, Calif.—Group 1 Automotive, an international Fortune 500 automotive retailer with 191 dealerships located in the U.S., U.K., and Brazil, has announced the acquisition of longtime family-owned Mel Rapton Honda in Sacramento, Calif. It is expected to generate approximately $85 million in annualized revenues. It has been rebranded Capital City Honda.

“We’re extremely pleased to welcome the team at Capital City Honda to the Group 1 family. We’re looking forward to expanding our relationship with Honda and the local community in Sacramento,” said Daryl Kenningham, president of U.S. and Brazilian Operations for Group 1 Automotive.

Year to date 2021, Group 1 has completed $655 million of acquired revenues. The acquisition of this store brings Group 1’s total U.S. dealership count to 120. 

With the company’s previously announced pending acquisition of Prime Automotive Group expected to close in November 2021, the company’s total acquired revenues are expected to be approximately $2.5 billion at the anticipated closing date, and Group 1’s total dealership count would increase to 221 locations globally, which would include 150 U.S. locations.
