The sunset of these programs marks the final phase of the BAR’s implementation plan for the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Program
Rancho Cordova, Calif.—Effective September 27, the brake and lamp inspection programs will end. The sunset of these programs marks the third and final phase of the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s (BAR) implementation plan for the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection (VSSI) Program established by Assembly Bill 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021). Inspections under the new VSSI Program began statewide on July 8.
Important information for licensees:
• Licenses: Brake and lamp station and adjuster licenses are valid until September 27. To apply for a vehicle safety systems license, review the steps to get licensed at www.bar.ca.gov/safety.
• Inspections: Licensees can continue to perform brake and lamp inspections until September 27.
• Certificates: Contact BARenforcement@dca.ca.gov to request a refund for unused brake and lamp certificates.
