BAR invites techs and shops to participate in soft launch of online license print feature

The feature provides inspectors and technicians easy access to print copies of their wall license and badge through the California Automotive Resource Center

Rancho Cordova, Calif.—The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) has announced the soft launch of its online license print feature. The new feature offers licensees self-service license printing. BAR is reaching out to technicians and shops to seek assistance in testing the new feature to help ensure its August 2023 release is a success.

The new license print feature offers licensees the convenience of self-service license printing, eliminating the need to wait for the license mailed by BAR’s print vendor. BAR states this will greatly benefit stakeholders, streamlining the licensure process and reducing wait times.

After entering the business license and address, automotive repair dealers receive a printable copy of the registration and all associated station licenses. The feature provides inspectors and technicians easy access to print copies of their wall license and badge through the California Automotive Resource Center (CalARC). Licenses are available for printing immediately upon BAR approval of a license application and/or renewal.

To ensure the feature’s functionality and usability meet the expectations of BAR’s stakeholders, BAR is conducting user testing during the soft-launch phase.

Here’s how to participate in the user testing:

  • Access the new license print feature: Visit BAR’s website at www.bar.ca.gov/license-print.
  • Test the Functionality: Use the feature to print a license. Test the barcodes provided on the Smog Check licenses when using their inspection equipment.
  • Provide Feedback: After testing the license print feature, send comments, suggestions, and any issues encountered to Zachary.Richardson@dca.ca.gov.
  • Deadline: The soft-launch phase concludes on Wednesday, Aug. 9. BAR requests all feedback to be submitted before the end of this period.
