Ranken’s virtual job fair is a hit among prospective employers and students

Automotive industry employers attended the St. Louis technical college’s job fair for the opportunity to hire the next generation of talent

St. Louis—In view of the coronavirus, Ranken Technical College held its annual spring job fair online last week through a virtual platform for Ranken students and past graduates.

Automotive mechanical and collision shop owners/managers, parts distributors and manufacturers attended the two-day event for the opportunity to hire the next generation of automotive talent, said Career Services Director Janie Summers.

“The virtual job fair was a success. There were 194 companies registered and more than 285 chat conversations. Many companies made connections offline through our online job database, Ranken Connection, right prior to the job fair.”

She added that some of the employers mentioned they liked the virtual job fair idea. “They didn’t have to leave their desk in order to participate. Students also appreciated the flexibility in time because some had other employment but were able to connect after regular working hours. A few mentioned they had interviews lined up.”

One feature that will be coming soon is the video chat capability, Summers said. “This should be available for the next one.”
