Vehicle safety systems inspection begin July 8

Licensed vehicle safety systems inspection stations and technicians can start performing vehicle safety systems inspections

Rancho Cordova, Calif.—Effective July 8, licensed vehicle safety systems inspection stations and technicians can start performing vehicle safety systems inspections.

To prepare for the July 8 inspection start date:

  • Apply for a vehicle safety systems license: Licensure is open for stations and technicians. Review the steps to get licensed and apply now.
  • Complete a station participation agreement: Make sure your station has registered and downloaded the California Vehicle Inspection System (Cal-VIS) software to your BAR-SIS. After completing online enrollment and a station participation agreement through the Cal-VIS billing portal, you can conveniently purchase certificates of compliance through the BAR Safety Inspection System (BAR-SIS).
  • Pass a station inspection: Be sure to review the station checklist to help prepare for the inspection. If your station has submitted a license application and has not been scheduled for a station inspection, contact BAR Field Office Support.
  • Complete biometric enrollment: All technicians must establish their biometric palm data profile before performing inspections. Contact BAR Field Office Support for enrollment dates and times. Note, if you are a licensed Smog Check inspector and have already completed biometric enrollment, you do not need to reenroll.
