MEMA’s John Chalifoux to retire after 20 years of service

Chalifoux has been a driving force within the vehicle supplier community for 35 years, contributing significantly to MEMA’s evolution and growth

Southfield, Mich.—MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association, has announced the retirement of John Chalifoux, chief sustainability officer for MEMA and chief operating officer of MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, effective January 2, 2026.

Chalifoux has been a driving force within the vehicle supplier community for 35 years, contributing significantly to MEMA’s evolution and growth. His retirement caps a career defined by innovation, leadership and a deep commitment to the people and companies that make up our industry.

Chalifoux’s journey with MEMA began in 1998 as an engaged member while at Valeo, then at PwC, contributing to OESA’s early councils and success. In 2006, he transitioned from member to staff, joining the OESA team (now MEMA Original Equipment Suppliers) in a professional capacity where he played a key leadership role in advancing the organization’s mission and expanding its reach within the vehicle supplier community.

A standout moment in his tenure came in 2010, when he worked with industry leaders to launch MERA – The Association for Sustainable Manufacturing. As MERA’s founding president, Chalifoux led the organization for 12 years, advancing global recognition of remanufacturing in the circular economy and serving as a champion to position the remanufacturing community for future success.

More recently, he played a pivotal role in shaping MEMA’s future through its historic consolidation and rebranding. John helped launch the MEMA Center for Sustainability and supported the integration of automotive, commercial vehicle and remanufacturing segments into MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers.

“John’s leadership and dedication have helped define MEMA’s commitment to innovation and sustainability,” said Bill Long, president and CEO, MEMA. “His vision has left a lasting impact on our members and the industry. We are grateful for his many contributions and look forward to celebrating his achievements.”

Paul McCarthy, president, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, said, “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing John and calling him a friend for over a quarter century. He has been an exemplar of the member-centricity and customer delight that are at the heart of our culture as we serve the supplier community. Our whole team offers John a well-deserved thanks and congratulations.”

Reflecting on his career, Chalifoux said, “It’s been an incredible journey and a true honor to serve the vehicle supplier community. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and grateful for the chance to work alongside such passionate members and talented colleagues. MEMA’s future is bright, and I look forward to seeing what the team will accomplish next.”

Chalifoux will remain with MEMA through the end of the year, supporting the association’s continued transformation. After that, he will spend more time with his family — and in the garage, where a few car projects await.
