New initiative aims to reduce global shortage of automotive technicians with investment to support an estimated 10,000 aspiring professionals worldwide
Lexington, Ky.—Valvoline Global Operations is debuting its next generation Aspiring Mechanics Program.
Designed to remove entry barriers and open doors for the next generation of automotive technicians, the program comes at a critical time as the global automotive industry faces a projected shortage of 4.3 million skilled workers by 2030.
To help close this gap, Valvoline Global’s new Aspiring Mechanics Program includes a five-year, $1 million pledge to support an estimated 10,000 aspiring technicians globally through training, scholarships and local engagement programs.
A Legacy of Championing Mechanics
Since the 2020 launch of its Mechanics Month program (now recognized annually in more than 60 countries), Valvoline Global has directly invested in technicians worldwide. Tailored to meet regional needs, this global commitment ranges from scholarships and apprenticeships to toolbox donations and mentorships in communities around the world.
Valvoline Global is now expanding those efforts with its Aspiring Mechanics Program which includes a new flagship program with the Hub for Innovative Learning and Leadership (HILL) in Lexington, Ky., where the company is headquartered.
“This partnership gives our students authentic pathways into high-demand careers where their skills will make an immediate difference,” said Michelle Wilson, Principal & Lead Learner for The HILL. “With Valvoline Global championing our students, they can clearly see a future for themselves in a field where they are truly needed and valued. At The HILL, we are committed to connecting learning with real opportunity, and this collaboration brings that promise to life for every student in our mechanics program.”
Partnering with Purpose at the Mexico Grand Prix
Next week, Valvoline Global’s Aspiring Mechanics Program will be on display at the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix, spotlighting hands-on learning. Students from La Escuela Mexicana de Electricidad (EME), who have received scholarships through the Aspiring Mechanics Program, will receive trackside access with Valvoline’s F1 motorsport partner, Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team.
The students will go behind the scenes with professional F1 mechanics as they tour the team garage and witness firsthand how innovation and precision drive performance at the highest level of racing.
And while the program is built around addressing a global industry need, its most profound impact is felt by the individuals it serves. For students like Julio Del Moral, a scholarship recipient from EME, the support and hands-on experience are deeply meaningful.
“I feel very grateful for the scholarship,” said Del Moral. “We need this to continue learning, to continue motivating ourselves. I hope this scholarship can benefit many people so they can have opportunities and continue learning.”
