ASA Northwest’s ‘Kids First’ program celebrates 20 years

Tacoma, Wash.— The ASA Northwest Pierce County Chapter will once again be holding its “Kids First” program to help needy families during the holidays.

“We work through the Multi-Cultural Hope Center in Tacoma, a non-profit human services agency,” said Jeff Lovell, ASA Northwest president/executive director, who will also be Santa and hand Christmas presents and clothes to 40 children this year.

Lovell started the program 20 years ago with a “Kids Place” program through Overall Laundry Company and ASA Northwest provided needy children through Catholic services. “However, The Kids Place closed, so we found another organization that takes care of kids, Multi-Cultural Hope Center,” he said.

ASA Northwest has volunteers who help do the shopping and wrapping of the gifts. “This year, Jen Smith from Gig Harbor Automotive did the shopping for all the clothes for the kids,” Lovell said. “She also organized the gifts for members to come and wrap on December 16.”

Those interested in donating to future events can call the ASA Northwest office at 253-473-6970 or visit the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/2019KidsFirst.
