The Clay Buzzard family becomes Gold Lifetime Trustee

The designation is reserved for outstanding donors who have expanded their support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation and its mission

Bethesda, Md.—The Clay Buzzard Family has increased their support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation (UAF), reaching the Gold Lifetime Trustee level. The Gold Lifetime Trustee designation is reserved for outstanding donors who have expanded their support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation and its mission.

One of the true visionaries of the aftermarket, Clay Buzzard was the chairman and CEO of Middle Atlantic Warehouse Distributor Inc. (MAWDI) from 1963 until 2004, when Uni-Select purchased the company.

After the sale, Buzzard served on the Uni-Select board, remaining active in the business and contributing significantly to the company’s success. During his career, he received many industry honors, most notably named Leader of the Year by the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) in 1996.

Buzzard led the AWDA University Foundation (now the University of the Aftermarket Foundation) as chairman for many years and played an integral role in its success. His wife, Rita, has continued his legacy through her ongoing support of the UAF mission.

“Our family is greatly honored to be recognized as a Gold Lifetime Trustee by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation,” said son Jim Buzzard, AAP. “Clay loved our industry and believed strongly in the foundation’s mission and the incredibly important work it does in benefiting the aftermarket.”

Roger McCollum, MAAP, UAF chairman, said, “We thank the Buzzard family for their generosity and ongoing support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. Three generations of the Buzzard family have been committed to the goals and success of UAF since its inception.

“Clay’s son Jim served on the UAF board of trustees for many years and Clay’s grandson Mike currently serves on the board of trustees and leads the UAF scholarship program. What a remarkable way to honor Clay’s memory.”
