Austin, Texas—InsuranceQuotes.com’s newly released report provides a big picture analysis on the state of Florida’s auto insurance market. The report also includes a metro area by metro area breakdown, along with an analysis of statewide trends and demographic differences, as well as additional factors.
“The state is struggling to bring down the number of uninsured drivers, making insurance more expensive for everyone else on the road,” said Michael Giusti, an insuranceQuotes.com analyst and author of the report.
The report features a ranking of the most and least expensive cities for auto insurance among the state’s top 100 most populous cities. The most expensive metro area is Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach ($9,707.87), followed by Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater ($8,559.76) and Lakeland-Winterhaven ($7,164.93).

Audi A6 drivers paid the highest average premium at $9,108, followed closely behind by Tesla Model 3 drivers who paid an average premium of $9,091. Ford F-series truck drivers paid the least on average, coming in at an average premium of $6,300, with Honda CR-Vs coming in at $6,653.
Rates differ by vehicle for several reasons. One is that some vehicles tend to sustain more damage in wrecks than others, which is one of the criticisms of electric vehicles, such as the Tesla. The Chevy Bolt, however, was in the middle of the pack in terms of insurance costs.
Vehicles tend to cost less to insure if there is more access to aftermarket repair parts and more technicians who know how to make the repairs. And in general, more expensive vehicles cost more to insure because if they are totaled, replacing them costs more.
