BAR announces safety inspection workshop to target salvage-titled vehicles

At a minimum, the new program will combine and ultimately replace the Bureau’s current lamp and brake inspection programs

Sacramento, Calif.—The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will host a second public workshop — in-person — to discuss regulation development for the proposed vehicle safety inspection and certification program. The first workshop was held on April 20.

AB 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021) requires BAR to establish by Jan. 1, 2024, a vehicle safety inspection and certification program for salvage-titled vehicles. At a minimum, the new program will combine and ultimately replace the Bureau’s current lamp and brake inspection programs. This workshop will provide drafts of the proposed regulations and vehicle safety inspection manual for continued discussion on the Bureau’s implementation strategy and regulation development process.
