New workshops for repair shops

BAR will be hosting two virtual workshops for repairers on April 20 for application regulations and the proposed vehicle safety inspection program

Sacramento, Calif.—The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will be hosting two workshops via WebEx on the morning of April 20. The first workshop at 10 a.m. will be on auto repair dealers (ARD) application regulations and the second workshop at 11 a.m. will be on the proposed vehicle safety inspection program.

ARD applications

As provided by AB 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021), the draft regulations would define “nationally recognized and industry-accepted educational certifications” and establish a process for Bureau review and approval of educational certifications that do not meet this definition. The regulations would establish a process for recognizing both of these types of educational certifications on the ARD application.

Vehicle safety inspection and certification program

AB 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021) creates a vehicle safety inspection and certification program by January 1, 2024, that will, at a minimum, combine and ultimately replace the Bureau’s current lamp and brake inspection programs. The Bureau has solicited input from stakeholders on various aspects of the new program. The workshop will provide a draft outline of the program and allow for continued discussion on the Bureau’s implementation strategy and regulation development process.

Visit the Public Workshops webpage on BAR’s website for more information on these workshops.
