Hourglass Foundation seeks scholarship applications from automotive students

Plain City, Ohio—The non-profit The Hourglass Foundation has open registration for automotive trade school and community college students to apply for scholarships to support their burgeoning careers in automotive. The deadline for scholarship applications is April 30 with award notifications by May 21. Students can apply here.

The Hourglass Foundation provides financial support through scholarship-giving to underserved students in order to help them pursue their career dreams as auto technicians and auto mechanical technicians, as well as all skilled trades.

“Our mission is to be a financial source to help students apply all they have learned and begin their career in an expeditious manner, while reducing their school debt. The four-year path is wonderful, but it is not for all,” stated Executive Director Janet Smails.

The scholarship program launched in 2020 and raised funds to support 10 students, and is seeking to assist 20 students this year, as well as a tool scholarship to a graduate of an automotive program from either a community college or trade school. Funds are raised in a variety of ways, which include monetary donations, vehicle donations, as well as fundraising programs with automotive partners. Visit here to donate.

Scholarship name: “More Than One Path”

Amount: $1,000 will be paid annually and is designated toward tuition and fees

Eligibility

A U.S. graduating high school senior or an individual with a GED certificate who is continuing their education at either a trade school or community college program with focus on Auto Tech, Engineering Tech or Skilled Trade Programs (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Construction). Consideration will be given to financial need, academic achievement, community service record/extracurricular activities.

Requirements

• Minimum high school GPA of 2.5.

• Enrollment in one of the following areas of study Auto Technology, Auto Mechanic, Engineering Tech or Skilled Trade Program (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Construction etc.)

• Completed scholarship application

• One letter of recommendation

• Official school transcript

• Completed essay (details)

• Listing of extracurricular/volunteer activities (if applicable)

“We know the need is large and it will take much work, but together we can provide life changing opportunities to young people entering the field, as well as to industry partners,” Smails added.
