CAWA cancels 2020 pre-Industry Week event that raises scholarship funds

‘This was a difficult decision by the board of directors but a necessary one, given the unknowns and current status of the virus’, says Rodney Pierini, president and CEO.

Sacramento, Calif.—CAWA has canceled its upcoming annual gala dinner event in Las Vegas to “kick-off” Industry Week due to the impact of Covid-19. The CAWA Board of Directors discussed the matter at its June 26 meeting and voted to cancel this year’s event and re-schedule it for 2021, Rodney Pierini, CAWA president and CEO, told Aftermarket Matters Weekly.

“This was a difficult decision by the board of directors but a necessary one, given the unknowns and current status of the virus,” he said, adding that the decision was strictly the board’s and it was unaminous.

When asked how the determination will affect CAWA’s scholarship fundraising efforts for 2021 as the dinner was the primary event for donations, Pierini replied that there would be no fundraising efforts for 2021, as in the past at the annual dinner.

CAWA has already made plans for 2021, by scheduling the event the Sunday night before AAPEX and SEMA, Oct. 31, 2021. For more information, contact programs@cawa.org.
